What and exciting two days!
February 19, 2009
Hello CDC boys and girls, Miss Duygus class (and Mom
Yesterday we went to Sierra Chincua which is another beuatiful Monarch sanctuary. This time instead of hiking we rode horses up the mountain. My horses name in English was Starlight . She was very beautiful and gentle. My guides name was Jose. The butterflies were cascading off the trees like a snow storm! It was an amazing sight.
Today we went to visit a school on the island of Pacanda in the middle of Lake Patzcuaro. The childeren loved the books and quilt we all made . The children sang and danced for us and their parents cooked us a wonderful lunch. You know what? Dogs go to school here too. There wwere several on the playground. That would be fun to have dogs at school!
The mascots and I will check in again soon. Only two more days le3ft on our trip.I have lots of things to share with you!
I will find out the names of all of the mascots and take a group photo
See you all soon,
Miss Hope & the mascots.
Enjoy both slideshows…..
Millions of Monarchs!
February 17, 2009
Today we took a hike up the mountain in the El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary .
We hiked up the mountain with our guide Rosa who carried some of the teachers mascots and talked to us about life in the sanctuary region.
What an amazing day! When we reached the top of the mountain, Monarchs covered the trees and looked like orange leaves. When the sun warmed them ,they cascaded out of the trees and circled all around us. It looked like butterfly snow!
There were so many that you could hear their wing beats. It sounds like two hands rubbing togther. Try it!
Untill next time enjoy the slideshow!
To The Market We Go
February 16, 2009
Hi all!
First of all,be sure to read the previous posts to see what we have been up to. ( Click on Archives at the bottom of the page.)
Today we visted the market town of Tlalpujahua. Check out the slide show to see what people buy at the market.
Then we were on the road again .Can you see what animals were walking in the road and blocked our bus?
We also stopped by the side of the road to see the Nopale and Agave cactus. There are more cactus species in Mexico than anywhere else.
The cactus can be eaten and the juice is used in cooking. The cactus could be made into clothing and paper. It can also be used as a needle and thread!
Watch the pictures of our guide Marcos cutting a piece of cactus to use as a needle. I have it with me and will bring it back!
I need to get my rest because tomorrow we see the butterflies!
Hugs,
Miss Hope and the Mascots
We have arrived!
February 15, 2009
All of the Monarch teachers arrived in Mexico City safe and sound. After our plane landed we went to the Museum of Anthropology. We learned a lot about how the people in Mexico lived long ago.
In the morning we will be on our way to a market and a silver mine.
Here is a picture of us ( Miss Hope, Squeaky,Kija and Yildiziz next to an an ancient ball and hoop game.
Do you think you could get a heavy ball through this stone hoop with your hip? That is how the game was played long ago and is still played today.Try it with a ball and hoola hoop!
Untill we can check in again ….

Getting packed and ready…..
February 13, 2009
Squeaky,Yildiz and Kija are helping me pack for our trip. We leave for Mexico on Valentine’s Day at 8:20 in the morning. The plane flight should take about 5 to 6 hours.
What would you pack for a trip away from home?
We can’t forget to take our Passport!
A Passport is a special little book that shows who you are. My picture, my name and my address are all inside my Passport. All travelers need to show their Passport when they arrive in another country. There will be a person at the airport in Mexico that stamps the inside of the Passport to allow me ( and Yildiz,Squeaky and Kija ) to enter the country.
We are all really excited! Check back here tomorrow night. We’ll check in with you when we arrive in Mexico.
Adios for now,
Miss Hope and The Mascots
